We make beautiful tables to your specification at Alcove . We use solid pine and oak ( no veneer here!) and tables with waxed legs or painted in your choice of Farrow & Ball paint. This table shown here has a waxed pine top and pine legs painted in 'strong white ' by Farrow & Ball which is a crisp lovely white. This table is a small size to fit in a specific area of a customer's house but they can be made to any size . We can also incorporate a drawer into the table which looks lovely and provides useful storage for place mats, tablecloths etc . The beauty of a bespoke piece of furniture is that it suits your needs perfectly,if you like to be able to cross your legs under a table we can ensure the table is high enough to do so ! Prices vary on size and specification, this one was £180. Call, email or pop in to our shop to discuss your requirements and get a quote! We have just completed an alcove cupboard for a customer in their sitting room.
The brief was to hide the ugly meter box that was taking up space in their sitting room. This is a common problem for our customers with Victorian houses and we think our Alcove Cupboards provide a really elegant solution. The customer is leaving the bottom doors with a wood finish and painting the architrave and shelves in white. We built the bottom shelf to be tall enough to house their lamp and the other shelves to suit. We also ensured that the television aerial can pass through the side of the alcove cupboard to the tv! All our Alcove cupboards are bespoke, so you can have the shelves any height you wish to suit your belongings and exactly how you please. If you would like an alcove cupboard like this fitting then email or call us for a free quotation, they start at around £450 un-painted x Remember our previous blog post about our neighbour's Victorian Front door that we saved from the skip ? Well, we are proud to say that it now has a beautiful new home and is barely recognisable from before! It has been stripped ,had the old door furniture removed, had the holes filled, been painted with under-coat and had new door furniture fitted. Gary them delivered the door to its new home and fitted it. The property is a gorgeous modern home in a conservation area so the front door had to be just right. We think the door look splendid, and it hasn't even had its final coats of paint yet! The customer really struggled to source a front door throughout Cheshire and Staffordshire so we were thrilled to solve her dilemma. A job well done! The door has been saved and will hopefully look stunning for another 100 years. Its reclamation is good for the planet and good for the customer, you don't get a better result than that! We thought we'd try something a little different this weekend and take a stall on the Newcastle Under Lyme Artisan Market which was part of the annual Christmas Lights Switch on Celebrations. Here at Alcove we have lots of ideas rocketing around. Plenty on our 'to do' list that we never seem to find the time to get working on! Top of that list was to make a Sash Window Mirror. Eagle eyed customers may note that this Victorian Sash Window has been stripped and on the wall of alcove for months now, looking lovely in it's own right, but this week Gary finally found the time to finish its transformation. This Victorian box sash window was originally painted white in a Stoke on Trent home. It has been ripped out and reclaimed by Gary and stripped to remove the paint and return it to its beautiful wood. Gary has used his glazing experience to fit six purpose cut mirrored panels into the frame to create this striking mirror. Apologies for the poor photo, I can't wait to get into the shop tomorrow and take lots of photos in a better light! The beauty of these mirrors is that they really open up a room and let so much light in. They also look great in both period and modern homes, and can look strikingly modern or Shabby Chic depending on the frame. We will also be making Sash mirrors of varying sizes and some with frames painted in Farrow & Ball. It's so exciting, and I have a sneaky suspicion that one of these mirrors may be finding its way onto our own mantelpiece at home very soon! Have a Fab Sunday! Debbie Alcove will be having a stall at the Newcastle Under Lyme Christmas Lights Switch On, Saturday & Sunday 23rd & 24th November 2013. We'll be showcasing our lovely handmade and unusual range of gifts and homewares, and we hope it'll be a busy weekend! We'll be taking our most popular smaller items including photo frames, coasters, cushions, jugs, candles, vintage china, handmade goods, as well as Christmas decorations of course! We will also be taking our new portable Card reader so we will be able to take Chip and Pin payments from our market stall! Hope to see you there! Alcove xxx Here are some photos of the latest Alcove cupboard we have designed and fitted.
The brief was that our customer just couldn't find a suitable piece of furniture to fit her living room alcove in her 19th Century Cottage. She had a clear idea of the colours, tones and materials that she required and she is really happy with the finished product! We utilised late Victorian Cupboard doors to give a period finish so this alcove cupboard doesn't look out of place in her period cottage. These doors were originally lifeless, we sanded and multiple waxed them and this is their natural restored colour. We love to use authentic doors as their look just can't be copied, but of course this is also eco - friendly, which we love! We used new pine for the shelves and painted the cornicing and architrave in Farrow & Ball Eggshell 'Pitch Black' to the customer's specification. She also chose the wood colour too. We look forward to getting a final photo of the alcove cupboard dressed with the customer's interior features when we return to remove, strip and replace her interior doors and add a new brick hearth to her fireplace. At Alcove, we specialise in making the most of wasted space in your home. Utilising those nooks and crannies that could be so useful for storage, or displaying photos and belongings. Many period houses have lovely alcoves that just aren't suitable for modern furniture, bookcases fall short of the high ceilings or don't fill the width of the alcove. We can build you an alcove cupboard with shelves to show off your books or cupboards to hide away your clutter or any combination to suit your needs. If you have a lot of large books we can tailor the shelves to the right height so they fit in and look great. If you have lots of cd's and dvd's, perhaps you'd like shorter shelves to accommodate them. Perhaps you'd like a beautiful cupboard that is sympathetic to your décor to house the television and entertainment unit. The beauty of a bespoke cupboard is that it fits your home and your needs perfectly whilst looking beautiful. We don't only fit Alcove cupboards to period properties. We have also built bespoke bookcases in modern homes to house a huge book collection, making a feature that wasn't previously there. Give us a call or pop into our shop, chances are we'll have some ideas you may not have thought of on how to solve your storage problems and make your house more beautiful! Below are some recent photos of where we built a bookcase on top of an old cupboard that a customer already had in their property. By building our bookcase on top and tidying up the existing cupboard the Alcove looked so much more beautiful and the customer was really pleased with the finished effect. We can't wait to see it adorned with their lovely things!
We're really sad to report that our house is now the last one in our street with its original sash windows and Victorian Front Door! We were pretty horrified last week to notice that a house a few doors down was having its original leaded lights and front door ripped out and replaced with plastic. Each to their own, live and let live and all that, but I'd be lying if I didn't say it caused a little tear in the Alcove household! We are happy to report though that we have rescued these poor leaded lights and front door and they are safely snuggled at Alcove! We always have period windows & doors in stock at Alcove, and these have joined the family! In a happy coincidence, one of our customers was looking for a Victorian front door to replace hers in a conservation area in Sandbach, so Gary will shortly be restoring and fitting this beautiful door into its new home. We'll be sure to take before and after photos for the blog! |
