Painted Furniture

We really love having a mix of furniture in our home and we try to reflect that at Alcove too.

We've got a mix of Victorian pine, bespoke alcove cupboards and painted pieces.  A mixture of restored and shabby chic!

We've always loved this look and it happens to be very fashionable now too.  A quick flick through our favourite Interiors magazines such as County Living, Homes and Antiques, Elle Decoration and World of Interiors reveals that is the way that people live now, they don't have all new or all old, they like a mixture and so do we!

When we paint furniture we like to use Farrow & Ball paint and a wax finish to give it a distressed 'Shabby Chic' look.

The Victorian pine chest of drawers above came to us a funny orange colour and we thought it was an ideal candidate for a bit of distressing as it is such a lovely shape!  We painted it with grey undercoat, then Farrow & Ball 'Skimming Stone' paint, then finished with varnish and slightly distressed it.

We only paint furniture when we genuinely think it will be an improvement to do so, we like to keep furniture in its natural state as far as possible, but we think that the occasional painted item in your home looks lovely.  Items like this Bedside cabinet below are a huge improvement painted!

This Cabinet is from France and we absolutely love it!  I don't mind telling you that I was very tempted to keep it, but there is simply no space for it in my house!

We painted the Chest of Drawers below in Farrow & Ball 'Mizzle' and gave it a new Pine top, waxed beautifully.

We painted the Cupboard below in a white Farrow & Ball shade and kept nice and clean to a customer's requirements.

We painted this lovely unit below in Farrow & Ball 'Mizzle' and we didn't distress it for a clean look!

We hope that these photos show you that not all painted furniture looks the same!  We like to keep things a bit different and unusual at Alcove and this includes our painted pieces.  You won't find it all painted cream here!  That's not to saythat our pieces are not tasteful, they're just a bit different from the rest.  That's the way we like it and we hope that you do too! xx
